Interessante Frage - in mehrerlei Hinsicht.
The labor
movement aims to increase the power of workers and to decrease corporate
control of people's lives.
Das ist die Aufgabe der Gewerkschaften *im*
Geld-/Waren-/Arbeitssystem. In selbigem bilden sie aber vor allem die
(notwendige) Antithese zur These Kapital. So gesehen sind sie zunächst
mal - wie die These - am Erhalt des Geld-/Waren-/Arbeitssystems
interessiert. Wenn wir nur mal an eine graduelle Abschaffung der
Arbeit durch massive Verkürzung der Arbeitszeit denken - wer in den
Gewerkschaften hat daran ein wahrnehmbares Interesse?

Das gilt für jede Ware - nur daß bei den wenigsten Waren Hard- und
Software, materielles Sein und die Kontrolle darüber so trennbar sind.

Mein Verdacht ist eher, daß die Gewerkschaften - richtigerweise -
Freie Software als ihren natürlichen Feind begreift, da Freie Software
das Geld-/Waren-/Arbeitssystem tendenziell überschreitet - und damit
die Gewerkschaften tendenziell obsolet macht.

Nun, für die allgemeineN ArbeiterIn stimmt das schon - auch die zahlt
(praktisch) nichts für Freie Software.
Für die spezielleN ArbeiterIn der Software-Industrie stimmt das schon
eher. Ihr Job steht letztendlich auf dem Spiel.

inefficiency and arrogance.
Mag sein. M$ macht's einer da auch wirklich leicht...
An open-source activist sees problems with
today's economic structures and sees how corporate control in our society has
terrible consequences.
Ist das so? Zweifel...
Most important of all, an open-source programmer knows
that democratic structures can be more productive than corporate hierarchies.
Das mag sein.
Unions can gain so much by supporting open-source software, but the
open-source community has not tried to explain this. Unions have very similar
data processing needs across the world, and the software to support that is
closed-source. Unions are not buying union-made software today because not
much exists. When you buy non-free software, you are usually giving money to
a corporation that unfairly profits from the backs of its workers. Paying
people to write free software means not supporting the promulgation of an
unorganized workforce. Programmers generally prefer working on free software
because they know that their product will benefit whoever needs it. By paying
people to write free software, unions are supporting the right of workers to
control the way their work is licensed.
Hmm... Mit dem gleichen Argument sind alle möglichen geldgebenden
Akteure in Haftung zu nehmen - z.B. der Staat. Davon abgesehen habe
ich sowieso Schwierigkeiten mit bezahlter Freier-Software-Entwicklung,
da hier der Entfremdungsfaktor wieder hineinkommt. Dann ist es
wirklich nur noch Open Source.
