[ox] Hinweis "The other Web"

vielleicht von Interesse , obwohl weit weg:

-----

Please forward this invitation by Friday, May 18,
2001, to people in the Puget Sound who may be
interested.

Welcome to "The Other Web."

Our aim is not a new organization but to weave a web of
existing groups and individuals that care for our planet
and are working for healing and transformation -
including sustainable community, economy, peace and
justice, environment, deepening democracy, and equality
for all. While we are not a "new group," we ARE new in
our emerging self-awareness.

Our aim is to nurture all of the participants in this
emerging loose network/coalition/alliance/web so that
individually and collectively we can work more
effectively. We want to organize a quarterly
celebration at the equinox and solstice to share our
successes, to discover ways to collaborate and add to
our impact, and to celebrate and have fun.

Our first endeavor will be to support the Co-
Opportunities Northwest Conference (see
http://www.coopnw.org for info). Next, we will plan an
event for December 21st -- afternoon for brainstorming
and collaborating, evening for dancing and celebrating.
Please join our "Web Council" when we meet next on
Saturday, May 19 at Antioch University at 1 pm, right
after the meeting of the Global People's Assembly, to
move forward on these plans. A description of that
meeting is provided in the following paragraph.
Information on joining TheOtherWeb discussion list is
provided at the end of this message.

"*SAT MAY 19, 9:45 a.m. - 1 p.m. (continuing on to 2:30
p.m. for participants who want to work on a task force;
bring sack lunch), at Antioch University, 2326 6th;
meeting of Seattle Chapter of the Global People's
Assembly. Bring your interests and passion to our Open
Space meeting to explore ways to deepen democracy. We
are one of dozens Local People's Assemblies forming all
over the world to create a network of organizations and
individuals to give a voice of direct democracy to the
people of the planet, ultimately through an assembly
parallel to the General Assembly of the United Nations.
Our vision is to develop DEMOCRATIC, NON-VIOLENT, wisdom
based processes for GLOBAL DECISION MAKING. Our work in
Seattle is to weave a coalition of individuals and
organizations and to deepen democratic processes. We
will bring the concerns of the Pacific Northwest to the
West Coast North America Regional Peoples Assembly in
San Francisco, June 28-July 1, 2001 and then to the
second Global Peoples Assembly in India, October 2002.

Antioch University Seattle is conveniently located at
Sixth Avenue and Battery Street at the northern edge of
downtown Seattle, near Denny Way and the SR 99 / Aurora
Avenue tunnel north terminus. Just look for the big pink
neon Elephant Car Wash sign! From north of Seattle, take
the Stewart Street exit off Interstate 5 and continue to
Denny Way, turning right (west) and continuing about
eight blocks. From south of Seattle, take the Seneca
Avenue exit off Interstate 5, turning right (north) onto
Sixth Avenue. Continue through the downtown core toward
the Space Needle about ten blocks.

Unfortunately Antioch University cannot provide parking
but you will find commercial pay lots adjacent to the
building. These lots are unattended, cost between $7 and
$10 a day and between $2 and $5 for the evening, and
require exact change or bills. There are also meter
spaces on the street that are free after 6 p.m. and on
Sundays.

Better still, take the bus! There are lots of routes
that go within a couple of blocks, including the 8, 26,
28, 39, 42, and 358, as well as lots more that go within
4 or 5 blocks, including the 1, 2, 3, 4, 13, and 16.
